The use of probiotics entails prophylaxis and treatment of UTI and is mainly concentrated on Lactobacilli. The objective of this research is to describe and characterize the performance of an innovative new method of constructing and actuating a synthetic jet utilizing electroactive polymers. This paper describes the mechanism by which the actuator operates, the experimental techniques used to characterize the actuator, and discusses the results of the characterization. During recent experimentation for other applications of electroactive polymer EAP ; actuators an interesting new phenomenon was observed. At certain excitation frequencies the polymer-electrode membrane under consideration begins to displace significantly perpendicular to the direction of excitation after a perturbation is introduced either through the environment or through the excitation. The perturbation and the harmonic excitation combine to form a standing wave across the membrane through harmonic construction. Once the standing wave is initiated with the perturbation, it is easily maintained. The vibration transverse to the excitation direction is referred to as the tympanic vibration, and its frequency as the tympanic frequency. The transverse vibration is on the order of a centimeter at tympanic frequencies greater than 100Hz. It is noted that the tympanic frequency is always lower than the excitation frequency. The tympanic vibration creates a significant movement of air with zero net mass change, but with significant change to the momentum of the air. This behavior introduces energy to the air which can be harnessed to keep flows attached over fuselages or wings in the same manner as with more conventional synthetic jets. The tympanic frequency may be adjusted during operation by modifying the tension on the membrane, or during actuator construction by modifying the size of the resonant chamber, the size of the jet orifice, or the mass of compliant electrode used. Different combinations of modifications are tested and discussed. The performance metrics used are membrane displacement measured using a laser displacement sensor, and induced velocity of the air jet measured using a pressure transducer. In addition, the shape of the membrane vibration itself is considered through the use of a high speed camera. Construction of each of the electroactive polymer synthetic jet EAPSJ ; prototypes involves just three steps. There are no mechanical linkages involved in the construction and thus fewer locations for failure to occur than with more traditional synthetic jets. The entire assembly involves only three components: the polymer membrane, the compliant electrode, and the combined mounting frame resonant chamber. In addition, the assembly can be made thin to reduce its profile. The materials used to construct an EAPSJ prototype are inexpensive and are widely available on the commercial market. The low profile, simple construction, tunable operating frequency, and low cost of the described EAPSJ actuators combine to create an attractive alternative to other synthetic jet designs. In addition to the description and characterization of the actuator, potential sources for error in the presented results are also discussed along with potential design weaknesses, and future directions for research and development.
In association with inflammation, the reaction of gingival fluid has been a source of interest and we have paid attention to its pH. The purposes of this study were to determine the pH in ginginal crevices and periodontal pockets and to find the relationship between the pH and gingival inf lammation The hydrogen ion-sensitive field-effect transistor HIS-FET ; electrode was used to measure the pH in 10 healthy adults and 10 patients. The pH was measured at depth of lmm from the gingival margin. In order to evaluate gingival inflammation, the gingival fluid volume was recorded and correlated with the pH in each site. The mean pH values in periodontal pockets showed lower levels than those in normal crevices. The difference between the means was significant P 0.05 ; only in lingual site. The mean pH values in lingual crevices were higher than those in the buccal and interproximal, and this was also the case for lingual periodontal pockets. As the gingival fluid volumes increased, elevations of pH were observed in crevices. However, in lingual periodontal pockets, decreasing pH values were observed with increasing gingival fluid volumes and pentamidine.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE Do not dilute! Requirements to substrate The concrete should be clean and dust free with an even, sound surface. Usual methods of surface preparation include milling, grinding and abrasive blasting. Surfaces must always be vacuum cleaned before coating with Mapecoat Universal. The surface temperature of the substrate should be at least + 10oC during application. To ensure that moisture does not condense on the surface of the concrete or between the first and second coats check that the surface temperature is at least 3oC above the dew point temperature before application. Mixing Comp. A and comp. B should be above + 15oC before mixing. Mix using a slow drill with whisk attachment for at least 3 minutes. The New York Center underwent major renovation work this year. The removal of old panelling on the walls of the first floor asana room revealed serious structural damage to the front of the building which needed immediate attention. Part of the front wall was rebuilt and similar repairs were done on the rear wall. The column which previously divided the room into two sections was removed, creating a much more open space with plenty of light and air.
