STABILITY The drug resinate is frequently more stable than the original drug. This is exemplified by the stabilization of vitamin B12 in the oldest pharmaceutical resinate application. Vitamin B12 has a shelf life of only a few months, but the resinate is stable for 2 years. This technology is still used commercially today, more than 40 years after it was first introduced. Another example is nicotine. Nicotine discolors quickly on exposure to air and light but the resinate used in nicotine chewing gums and lozenges ; is much more stable. POOR DISSOLUTION Many of today's drugs are poorly soluble due to slow dissolution and or low solubility. The rate of release of a poorly soluble, ionizable drugs from a resinate can be much quicker than the rate of dissolution of the pure drug. An excellent example is that of indomethacin which is only soluble up to ca 6ppm in simulated gastric fluid, but is released very quickly from a resinate. Figure II shows a graph of concentration vs time demonstrating this. Stirring an excess of indomethacin in simulated gastric fluid for 3 days achieved a concentration of only 1 ppm, whereas exposing a resinate of indomethacin to the same fluid gave a saturated solution within 30 minutes.

Abstract Iron-deficiency induces a remodeling of the photosynthetic apparatus in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. In this study we show that a key mechanistic event in the remodeling process of photosystem I PSI ; and its associated light-harvesting proteins LHCI ; is the Nterminal processing of Lhca3. N-terminal processing of Lhca3 is documented independently by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and tandem mass spectrometric MS MS ; analysis as well as by quantitative comparative MS MS peptide profiling using isotopic labeling of proteins. Dynamic remodeling of the LHCI complex under irondeficiency is further exemplified by depletion of Lhca5 and up-regulation of Lhca4 and Lhca9 polypeptides. Importantly, the induction of N-terminal processing of Lhca3 by progression of iron-deficiency correlates with the functional drop in excitation energy transfer efficiency between LHCI and PSI as assessed by low temperature fluorescence emission spectroscopy. Using an RNAi strategy, we show that the truncated form of Lhca3 is essential for the structural stability of LHCI. Depletion of Lhca3 by RNAi strongly impacts the efficiency of excitation energy transfer between PSI and LHCI, as is the case for iron deficiency. However, in contrast to iron-deficiency, comparative MS MS peptide profiling using isotopic labeling of proteins demonstrates that RNAi-depletion of Lhca3 causes strong reduction of almost all Lhca proteins in isolated PSI particles and ginger!

Angiogenesis involves several processes, including proteolysis and remodeling of the basement membrane, endothelial cell activation, proliferation, migration, and tissue infiltration from preexisting blood vessels 4, 5 ; . Endothelial cells can be induced to migrate in vitro by various angiogenic growth factors such as basic fibroblast growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor. These factors up-regulate the expression of uPA 6 ; and uPAR 7, 8 ; in endothelial cells. While the network coding literature often focuses on the special case where all sources are independent and uniformly distributed and all receivers demand all sources called multicast coding ; , generalizations to dependent sources [9] and arbitrary demands are also topics of significant interest. The question asked in network coding is whether or under what conditions ; we can build a code that meets the given demands. While the derivation of a rate region yields a complex subset of a space whose dimension equals the number of links in the network, the supportability question raised by network coding never requires that we list all rates over all links that allow us to meet the given demands. Instead, at least for the multicast demand structure, the conditions for supportability are extremely simple, and practical code design to asymptotically achieve the performance limit are also well understood. See, for example, [9], [20], [21]. ; The shift from rate regions to questions of supportability is only one of many factors that contribute to the success of network coding in making precise information theoretic statements about even very large networks.
