Ummm we had Ems' birthday celebrations a while back which would have been a great excuse to party on down but we had so many ill people that it was somewhat impossible to truly party. We still had a great time with many a silly party game all the rumours about me in a salwar kemise are lies - as are the ones about me putting makeup on Dave ; LIES I TELL YOU! The illnesses cleared up after a little while thanks in no small part to the Dr Matt - kidding I just handed out the meds really and gave them a lovely hand stamp when they got better ; . The ensuing joy was short lived, however, as we have been plagued by sickness the whole time. Thus far I am, by Gods grace, still fit and well which I put down to the fact that eating street food is in fact incredibly good for you, contrary to poipular belief. I'm getting to make some good friends along AJC Bose Rd which I really thankful for as I was worried the language 3 month restriction would prevent that. Chai guy, Mohammed the watch man with friends nassim and imran ; , Nahadim and sonya the beggar and son, and many more. Most importantly we are on 1st name terms with the local Alpha male goat Ned to Brits - Badal to locals ; who rules over all the land with a just and wise cloven hoof. We are still being harrassed by beggars a great deal but we are better judges of poverty and genuine need now and much better at turning the others down. Sat 17th we went to see James Bond in a nearby cinema we fitted 7 in a taxi excluding the driver- get in! [quite literally] ; which was tremendous fun and was a bit of a break from the overwhelming culture here. Phenomenally comfortable seats and great tasting popcorn, not to mention the fact that bob the builder the song was played during the interval! The following day we went to a huge celebration in St James' park nearby. Around 10000 christiand and seekers attended the massive concert style outdoor service. It was incredible and so encouraging to see such a huge congregation of Christians together in a city where they are so outnumbered. Oh that morning we also went to the Mother house at 6am for mass. An interesting experience to say the least. It was really good to have the opportunity to contemplate in peace at the beginning of the day but also quite difficult on the everyone joining in together front when they were saying some things which I do not agree with mostly Mary related ; . However, the purpose of doing so was to register for some of the work with the Mother T foundation. Debz and I have signed up to a project workiong with severely handicapped children and Micky and Ems will be working with the dxying and destitute. On tuesday we went to the Hostel associated with the Good News Mobile Schools with whom we are working. This is a place where the most gifted children from the Mobile Schools go when they pass a certain exam. It was so good to see the reward they get for working so hard and just how much of an opportunity the project is to break out from the viscious circle of poverty. There are around 125 kids there from 5-17yrs and they stay there 24: 7 with only 4 wks off each year. The hostel is a complete haven however, as it is just outside the city with large grounds and decent accommodation. The children were so well behaved but still just as crazy and friendly as their street dwelling counterparts. I'd love to write for ages about all these things as they were just incredible but really cannot afford to do so. The following day Debz and I went to the Mother T project for the first time. This was possibly the most challenged I have been since arriving in Kolkata and therefore probably the most out of my comfort zone I have felt in my entire life. The sheer density of such heavily handicapped children was just devastating to see. There are roughly 18 boys downstairs from 4-11yrs whose handicaps range from mostly physical Mongol's English and Bengali are both thoroughly impressive but he is completely wheelchair bound.

Admissions The admission rate in the study period was 31.7% 145 out of 457 patients ; . One patient with haemoptysis was initially discharged and referred to the Chest Clinic but he presented himself to the department again on the same day and was later admitted to the medical ward. Half of the admissions were to the medical or surgical wards Figure 4.
Chapter 1 FRESHWATERPHASE 1.3: Freshwater phase: ecological information of eel populations and orientation on the earth's magnetic field. Ecological information about the home range and territorial behavior of eel in lakes and ponds is scarce. Also information about daily and annual activity patterns of eel is scarce. It is well known that eels have a strong homing behavior. When they are caught and transferred over 10200 km they return back to their earlier territories Deelder & Tesch 1970, Hurley 1972 ; . Research with tagged American eels Anguilla rostrata ; shows that their daily activity pattern is restricted to an area of 30-133 m. It was estimated that the home range the foraging area ; is restricted to 0.2 to 2, ha Ford & Mercer 1986, Labar 1982 ; . Eels show territorial behavior in the population. Helfman 1986 ; observed with a video-camera in wild American eel populations that large eel expel smaller eel from their territory. Aggression and hierarchy are only observed in low densities with large eel 400 mm ; Tesch 1977 ; . At high densities there is less aggression. After: de Nie 1988 ; . Whether migratory animals can determine their global position by detecting features of the earth's magnetic field has long been debated Gould, 1985, Walcott 1991 ; . It is assumed that birds Gould 1985, Walcott 1991 ; , honeybees Walker & Bitterman 1989 ; , whales Kirschvink et al. 1986 ; and dolphins Walker et al. 1992 ; make use of this mechanism. For fish it is generally assumed that they are able to orient themselves on the earth's magnetic field Walker 1984 ; probably by sensors along the lateral line. So the question arises, do migrating silver eel orient themselves on the earth's magnetic field? For silver eel it is generally accepted that they migrate to the Sargasso Sea Schmidt 1923, Miller & McCleave 1994, Fricke & Kaese 1995 ; . It is likely that eels also use this mechanism to find its way to the Sargasso Sea. In the literature, several field studies with eel support the view that orientation is accomplished through features of the earth magnetic field. In tank experiments, Miles 1968 ; found that American silver eels orient themselves southwards a direction considered appropriate for the spawning migration to the Sargasso Sea. Telemetric tracking studies with European yellow and silver eels along the German North Sea coast indicated that the yellow eel preferred north-south axis while silver eels had a tendency towards a north-westerly direction Tesch 1972, 1974 ; . This direction for orientation was considered appropriate for European eels on spawning migration. In addition, strong artificial magnetic fields under laboratory conditions can override the natural directional preference of eels Branover et al. 1971, Tesch 1974 and axert.

40.9% ; , and pasta 38.8% ; . The data for flour tortillas represents the participants' willingness to eat four or more flour tortillas each week, not their willingness to eat flour tortillas four or more times each week. ; The majority of the participants were "very interested" in learning about the folic acid-related health benefits mentioned in the questionnaire. The participants were most interested in learning more about the ways diet may help lower their risk of breast, cervical, and colon cancers 89.3% ; . Interest in learning about the ways diet may help reduce the risk of birth defects in future pregnancies, depression, and heart disease was also high, 80.5%, 79.6%, and 74.6%, respectively and azacitidine.

Johnson, Lynn, University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Green, Thomas, University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Lantz, Marilyn, University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Katcher, Patricia, University of Michigan School of Dentistry Purpose: Good curriculum management and accreditation standards require a school-wide system of student assessment of instruction. The distribution of forms, collection of data, analysis of data, and the return of information to faculty can be a very laborintensive task, particularly in a large school. To streamline the process, an online system was envisioned. Our aspirations for the system were that it: 1 ; could be used for evaluation of clinical, preclinical, lecture large group ; , and seminar small group ; courses; 2 ; was easy to use for students, faculty, and support staff; 3 ; would require minimal support from the school's information technology staff; 4 ; would facilitate student compliance; 5 ; would guaranteed privacy of all student and faculty information; 6 ; would accommodate both Likert-scale questions and open-ended comments; and 7 ; would meet the school's reporting needs to the faculty, the school, and the university. A product, CoursEval, developed by Academic Management Systems was the product reviewed that matched our criteria the best. A pilot of the system was conducted with twenty randomly chosen first-year students. Feedback was gathered during the follow-up focus group. While a few problems did occur during the pilot, they were resolved. Students liked the convenience of the online forms, the time flexibility in completing the assessments, and the ease of writing comments. During the summer of 2003, the system was expanded to include three classes of students n 317 ; . One question was asked of all students: "These online surveys allowed me to provide information necessary for improvement of the curriculum?" Of 299 responses on a five-point scale, 70 percent agreed or strongly agreed, and 11 percent disagreed or strongly disagreed. When asked a similar question about the paper version of this system last year, responses on a two-point scale by class and by form ranged from 72 to 96 percent agreement and 6 to 28 percent disagreement. Our conclusion is that an IT solution to course and faculty assessment is feasible and bacitracin.
ABSTRACT: A4ytdus edulis develop progressive and fatal hemocyhc neoplasia. We have generated monoclonal antibodies using neoplastic hernocytes from highly infected individuals collected from Puget Sound in Washington State USA ; .Twenty-seven monoclonal antibodies against neoplashc cell antigens were obtaned. Specificity of 2 purified antibodies, 14F1 and 16G10, was demonstrated by immunofluorescence when incubated with neoplastic hemocytes, whereas these antibodies did not react with normal cells. This specificity was confirmed by immunogold labelling and electron nucroscopic visualiza~on. The technique permitted localization of the epitopes recognized by the monoclonal antibodies on the plasma membrane. These monoclonal antibodies are suitable reagents for establishment of immunoassays for diagnosis and quantification of hemic neoplasia in the mussel.

A. Morbid obesity: Laparoscopic procedures in morbidly obese patients are technically challenging. These difficulties include: inadequate length of instruments, decreased range of motion of the instruments, need for higher insufflation pressures to elevate the abdominal wall and poor anatomical orientation due to excessive amounts of adipose tissue. These difficulties translate into a higher rate of associated complications. In a multi-institutional review of laparoscopy in 125 morbidly obese individuals, one or more intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred in 30% of patients Mendoza et al, 1996 ; . In a recent comparison of major laparoscopic renal and adrenal procedures n 21 ; versus similar open procedures n 21 ; in the markedly obese patients BMI, 30 or greater ; , although operative time was longer in the former 210 mins vs. 185 mins; p 0.16 ; , the laparoscopic group had significantly superior outcomes with regards to blood loss 100 cc vs. 350 cc; p 0.001 ; , resumption of oral intake and ambulation less than 1 vs. 5 days; p 0.001 narcotic analgesic requirement 12 mg vs. 279 mg; p 0.001 ; , median hospital stay less than I vs. 5 days; p, 0.001 ; , and convalescence 3 vs. 9 weeks; p 0.001 ; Fazeli-Matin et al, 1999 ; . b. Extensive prior abdominal pelvic surgery: When extensive intraabdominal or pelvic adhesions are suspected close attention must be given to the possible site of Veress needle insertion, as well as consideration of obtaining open access with a Hasson style cannula. Alternatively, if a renal ureteral procedure is being planned, then in these patients, a retroperitoneal approach may be preferable to a transperitoneal approach or the procedure can be initiated retroperitoneally and the peritoneum then entered. c. Pelvic fibrosis: Pelvic fibrosis due to previous peritonitis and or pelvic surgery or radiation may constitute a severe technical challenge to the laparoscopic surgeon when surgery of the lower urinary tract is indicated. Similar problems may be encountered when trying to perform a pelvic lymph node dissection in patients who have undergone a hip prosthesis; leakage of the sealant can create a dense inflammatory reaction and fibrosis. d. Organomegaly: Known or preoperatively diagnosed organomegaly necessitates a cautious approach when obtaining the pneumoperitoneum. The site of Veress needle insertion must be chosen at a safe distance from any enlarged organ s ; . Alternatively, open access with the Hasson cannula may be considered. Open access is recommended in the case of marked hepatomegaly or splenomegaly. e. Ascites: Patients with severe ascites are under increased risk of injury to the bowel due to closer proximity of bowel loops to the anterior peritoneum. In addition, a watertight wound closure is required and a firm wound dressing should be applied to prevent prolonged postoperative leakage. An open cannula approach to achieving the pneumoperitoneum in these patients is recommended. f. Pregnancy: Initial access to the abdomen must be obtained at a safe distance from the fundus of the gravid uterus. As such, trocar placement is usually performed more cephalad on the abdominal wall, depending on the fundus of the uterus. The left upper quadrant is often the preferred site of access. Prolonged intra-abdominal pressures of 15 mm may result in.
